H beams can handle a lot more hp than i beams if your going for serious hp then go with h beams but if your going for a stock rebuild just go with the i beams cuz its less drag on the rotating assembly

It also depends on which I beam you go with..I have Oliver 5.85" billet steel I beams and I don't think I'd ever be able to hurt them...They are light and very, very strong...

If you plan to make much over 500 go with h-beam they are alot stronger.I-beams are lighter if that helps.

Thats not entirely correct. You need to do more research. Both are strong upgrades, the I beams are really for High RPM cars, and a lot of FI guys go with them. They arent as robust as the H beams, but they can handle a lot of power aswell. The H beams are considered the safe bet and many people feel more comfortable with them.

I just checked the Oliver site...My motor was built in 1995 and the prices have since gone up a bit...They are around $1500/set!! But I'm also going my 13th year beating on them...

Sounds like your setup was pretty well put together. Glad to hear that. I had a motor in the works with I beams, but sadly it got all messed up.

My 383 was built by Lingenfelter when John actually helped build/assemble them...and it just keeps getting faster...I'm a big fan of Oliver rods...Not a big fan of the price, though...
