Default firebird headlights

hey guys i got a quick question, i just picked up my first lt1 yesterday and the left front headlight goes up fine, and turns on, but it wont go back down?

now im used to working on porsches for my dad and they all have a similiar problem. Im wondering if this is just a simple case of the gear stripping out, im assuming its plastic? can i get a metal one if thats the problem?

as for the headlight... dunno if that is your problem, but i am assuming so... and yes, the factory gear is a plastic gear... ebay has metal gear replacements, and also a lot of people get theres from a guy by the name of brent franker... try a google search for bfranker and you should be able to find his site and info... also, if you want to make sure this is your problem, which im guessing it is, you can get a cheaper replacement plastic one from auto zone... part # 42400... i got a brass replacement a couple weeks ago for mine off of ebay, and it works great

might be a bad sensor, its located below the radiator cap on the back side of the radiator.

Your not alone with the "Low coolant light" issue. Most of us have that light. If your skeptical about it, frequently check your coolant level. Mine comes on all the time. I just been putting it off.

If you have the "low coolant" light on, but you have filled the radiator, then the sensor is bad. It's only like $15 from any parts store like Autozone, and is very easy to replace (takes like 5 minutes).

As for the headlight, this is a common problem, and most likely it is from the factory gears being stripped. I had a 94 Formula that they went bad in, and now I have a 98 Formula and they also went bad in it. I replaced both with Brent Frankers brass gears, and they have worked flawlessly ever since. There are some good write ups on the replacements for these. The repair time takes about a day, but only a few hours of that are actually installing them. The rest is from apoxy drying time for the plastic parts that go over the gears themselves.
