Diff between LT1 and SBC shortblock???
Whats the difference between the LT1 and SBC shortblock? I know the lt1 has reverse cooling, but isn't that all in the heads. Also the timing cover, but isn't the bolt pattern the same?

The bolt pattern and shape of both the timing cover and water pump is different. Along with the coolant passages due to the reverse flow configuration. SBC heads will bolt on but the passages won't match up. The rotating assembly and all bearings/freeze plugs is interchangeable between LT1s and one piece rear seal SBC engines.

The LT-1/4 blocks are completely different with the reverse coolant flow. They have both a hot outlet and cold coolant inlet on each side of the block and "only" an LT water pump will work on the block. Also, the timing chain cover w/ Opti and water pump drive ports.
