need help lt1 head gaskets

need help lt1 head gaskets I need as much info possable on changing out a head gasket.
First off the best way to test to make sure its the HG would be???? I had a shop tell me it was bad after i changed out the waterpump and thermostat.
second is what parts do i need to change the headgaskets? just the gaskets and bolts?
I have seen some places sell a kit includes 300 dollars worth of stuff.
Any other information pertaining to the change of heads and maybe any cheap cheap mods i should be doing while i have it apart. Seiing as how i am in school and not much money I cant do a whole lot. But i figure there must be something to do when u have intake and everything off.

Re: need help lt1 head gaskets you will need a pair of head gaskets, intake gaskets, exhaust gaskets, and valve cover gaskets. why dont you change out your cam while you are at it??? this job will take the majority of one day if not a whole complete weekend. good luck

Re: need help lt1 head gaskets believe me i wish i had the money to change out the cams i can even get a discount at crane cams. But still dont have enough $$

Re: need help lt1 head gaskets There is a tool that is filled with dye and replaces your radiator cap. You start it up when the car is cold and let it run with this in place (up until before the water starts to boil, since it isn't very pressurized.
The dye in it will change color in response to exhaust gasses in the coolant.
There is a "lisle" branded one I picked up before for around 30 bucks.
