I had a problem with my first one. I got it replaced and had no problems after that. Most of the problems with the MSD opti are that the rotor comes loose. You should check that first.

I have read about others having problems with them but most were due to improper installation. Mine has worked perfect since I installed it, and I open it up everyday that I drive!

PLEASE check the obvious FIRST! I installed a motor once and it started misfiring under a load. I replaced the opti also.

I had two plug wires swapped the whole time!

Might I add, the opti DID quit on me 10 mins. later driving down the road
(guessing the two being swapped messed it up)

No problems with mine, bought mine as a complete unit new, never opened it up to make sure the rotor wasn't loose so hopefully it will continue to keep working perfectly.

When I say improper installation I mean they assembled the opti wrong. The MSD opti has been known for the o-ring between the cap and housing to come loose and cause the rotor to rub. This is why they started putting out the square o-ring so it wouldn't roll off its lip.
