Depends on your oil filter,
The LT1's with oil cooler AC Delco PF454 filter takes 5 qt.
The LT1's with no oil cooler AC Delco PF1218 filter takes 5 1/4 qt.

ya because, when the manual came out they had a much bigger AC Delco PF1218 filter, the new filter has been updated, and holds 1/4 qt. less. so if your using the new PF1218 filter its 5 1/4 qt.

I put 5 and a 1/2 quarts in it with a generic Carquest filter and i'm a little over the top hole on the dipstick so I'd say 5 and 1/4 is about right.
