o2 sensor or my opti ?

o2 sensor or my opti ? noticed bad sputtering yesterday smelled exhaust real bad and i was shooting flames out mycutout 
it would sputter for awhile and then go away
i prey its not my o2 .. but my o2 code came up when i got it scanned
but it also came up when my opti pooped ..any ideas ?

i hate cruising at 3100rpm all the way outta town and sputtering made it better
oh and btw trannys going out too so it was a great day
