Default LT-1 SL Mercedes

What do you all think. I have a wrecked 95 Z-28, was thinking of buying buddies 78 450sl and putting the Lt-1 and auto trans in it. I think it would give it ***** and with independent front and rear it should handle like on rails. Know it would be some work, but should be fun for auto-x and a night at sonic.

might be cool, but what would be really cool is if you could find an old Datsun Z or an RX7, my buddy built a 10th ann. RX7 with and LT-1 6speed and it was a beast

I Work For Benz As A Tech And I Would Think It Would Be Awaome To See Something Like That!! I Dont Think The Stock Rear End Would Like It If Its Got
More Power Then Stock. I Think They Hold Up The Same Way Like A 10 Bolt But I Guess You Not Putting Slicks And Planning On Going 10s At The Track.

That's what I was afraid of. the rear end. Don't know how much stock MB rear-end will hold. Was thinking of trying to get 330-350hp out of motor. Mostly thinking of top speed and curved roads. Some drag but not much. alaureano do you know what stock gear ratio is?

I Would Have To Look It Up At The Shop. If You Can Get Me Your Vin# It Would Be Alot Easier. Did That Have V-8 In That Car? Benz Never Really Used
Really Low Gear Ratios Like 3.73. I Think It Maybe In The High 2s To Low 3s.
I Think As Long As You Dont Hammer This Thing At A Drag Strip You Should Be Fine.

Whao... are you serious with the capitals?
Makes you sound stupid.

Anyways.
If you can pull it off, go for the LT-Benz. But I'd find a 6 speed....

Have some fun with it atleast!

I thought of the six but just had back surgery less than a year ago and have nerve damage to my legs and feet. basically can/t feel my feet so an auto would be easier on me in town. I will get the vin next few days and P.M you. yes it is the v-8 4.5 liter. Might make a badge to replace the 450sl on trunk tho read LT-1sl

Hey just got off the phone with the guys who makes the paddle shifters for autos, and sounds like they would be cool. Once you put in the after market computer for the auto trans. you put in the paddles and can switch from manual tans to auto. once you put in the torque converter with oversize clutch, Just like a manual with all the pros of an auto. Only with four gears. can still have the feel and performance of a manual.

I am still looking to see if i could find any good performence parts for that car. The problem is most people that own that car dont care about stuff like that so i think you
will have to get parts custom made. All the people that come to our shop perfer to leave them stock. I think it will be tough but you will have a very good car when its done. Your body style is called the 107. If you had a 129 I think things would be easier. Thats the body style. that replaced the 107. Its a better platform to modify because
they also came out with SL600 which had a V-12. The rearend in that car was much better but it wont bolt up to a 107. The suspension was also better and you also had tuners taking the V-12 from 6.0 liters to 7.4 liters. You may want to visit this site http://www.pointedthree.com. Its like LS1TECH but for mercedes. I am sure you find some people there that may have done mods to this car. I just cant say for sure if anybody on there would swap a SBC in a 107.

Thanks for th einfo. I did try a Benz site and boy did they go nuts. When I mentioned the swap. I guess you don't mess with a Benz. But I say why not have a hell of an engine to go with a hell of a car. I did think of a LSx but would rather try and keep close to weight to keep car balanced.

They are kind of crazy. I think the lt1 will be great in that , maybe a 383 with AFR LT4 heads and some N20, custome fab suspension and a 12 bolt or 9 inch wold be cool!!! I remember when an owner of car like yours tried to get the car to start and poured gas down the intake and locked the motor. I thought they wouldnt spend a dime and they did. They spent over $10k on a new engine and a bunch of other things the car needed.

Was thinking about going the 383 route not sure yet. How many horses can you get out of the LTx with stock bottom end and working the top? If I can get 330rwhp I would be happy or do I need to go the stroker?

I think thats a very realistic amount of power that you want out of it with a stock bottom end. Just make sure everything inside looks good so you dont have problems. At least go with stronger pistons.
