If your willing to rev to where that cam wants to be then by all means go for it, the car will haul. The only downside I would say is the magnum lobes which are kinda old and lazy in todays terms but like I said if willing to spin it to 6600-6700 then the car will move pretty good. if your gonna do ported heads why dont you wait until then and get a cam ground to match the heads, would potentially work out much better for you than an off the-shelf cam.

You will have to get the rods and main caps re-sized for new bolts. Mine is stock bottom end and i shift it at around 6600, and it takes it like a champ!

I have the same question... shifting at 6600, how long have you had it in your car?

Ive put about 6000 to 8000 miles on it. I change the oil about every 2500 and use Mobil 1 synthetic 10w-30. I daily drive the car, and only spin it that high on special occasions.

That is according to my Harlan shift light. My buddies 94 would dig deep into the 12's through a stalled auto.

I dont know how they are wired but would the shift light read the same as the factory tach? I know the factory tach is way off well a couple/few hundred rpm's off, I now shift at 6500 and the tach reads 6900 which is scary lol.

I was looking into the cc306 for my '94 T/A, but after reading this thread I am thinking otherwise. I don't want to touch the heads, so a cc503 would be best?

I drive the car to work, around town, and to meets every now and then. I think it's about time I invest in some more power.

I dont have a stall or really any other work done besides full exhaust, fipk, and some other bolt ons. Gears going in next month.

From what Ive heard about it, I wouldn't use the CC306 even WITH ported heads. Not because it wouldn't have enough flow, but simply because the 306 is a dated design and there are nrwer cams that can give a better overall powerband and not cause you to have to rev to the moon to get anything out of it. It sounds awesome, and it makes pretty good power WAAAAAAYYYYY up top, but thats about it. If you are talking a serious h/c setup I would go custom cam, but that's just me. Then you get exactly what you want.

Definetly get a stall before you put any cam in it because it will drive pretty poorly. Check out the Crane 831 too similar to the cc503 just another option.

I have to agree with nighthawk with everything he said. Going custom cant be beat in most cases.

"old and dated" lobes = won't beat your valvetrain to hell = don't need to change springs often.

It reads straight off the negative wire from the coil. The stock tach is almost hitting the 7's when I shift at 6500 lol.
