406 or lt1?

Exclamation 406 or lt1?

i wanted some input on wether i should put a carbed 406 in my 93 trans am or re do my lt1 they both need rebuilt the plus to the 406 is the afr 227cncd heads any input would be great thanks. i think i can get more hp dollar for dollar out of the 406 but i could be wrong

The 406 would be cheaper since you already have good heads and big cubes.

Will the 406 survive well over 7000rpms where those heads are designed to work??

Do you plan on driving the car?

IMO AFR and putting a bigger carbed motor in the car are both mistakes.

Yup, The bigger is better rule is so misused, 227"s? I hope you are planning to run around 13.1 compression, Big Solid Roller...

I know of one guy with a "lt1" car sucessfully running AFR 227s, is a boost fed 434ci motors taken to the pcms 7-7200rpm limits, and uses a modded LT1 intake. Wen he started specing parts for a friend's much milder blower build they choose AI ported stockers.

Far as I know the AFR 227s were meant for HIGH rpm big displacement light cars like sprint cars.

i would drive the car on the street and put a big cam in itwhy not put a carbed motor in this car

Having both I would look at it from a horse power vs streetability stand point. Max effort weekend driver/racer I would go with 406 with a decent cam. For a daily driver, the LT1 with a smaller cam and EFI.
