Default Which Mechanical Water Pump?

Its time to replace my water pump. I am getting ready to chase an oil leak on the front cover. I already have a new opti from thepartsladi. What mechanical pump shoud I use? Is there a difference between a gm and a local auto parts store water pump. I will go with new, no remans. Also what about price? It looks like a new delphi is $200. What should I expect to pay.
Thanks.

For what car? You can get an AC Delco from Summit for $195 or a unit
(doesnt show it's AC Delco) from JEGs for $180. It's my personal opinion
to use only an AC Delco unit.

EDIT: forgot - I've looked at one of these third-party water pumps up
at Oreilly's (cant remember the brand name) and it looked "un-finished"
(probably a unit made in China).

I use $40-50 remans from Advance Auto. I seriously doubt anyone is still casting new housings for our relatively low number motors that have been out of production over a decade. Meaning IF the "nrew" pumps are new then they had to have sat in a wharehouse for a LONG time, s4eals dry and bearings rust when stuff just sits.

I have heard more stories of bad out of the box "new" pumps than cheapy remans.

If you like the idea of "new" or want a really good waranty I think Autozone has a liftetime warranty "new" unit.

Its for my 94 Bird. I have nothing against remanufactured. What I want is a reliable water pump. I would rather spend more now than have to buy another opti later. It sounds like 96capricemgr has had good luck with the remans. Is everbody else that has not switched to EWP's using the remanufactured WP's?

Consider too that I currently own 3 LT1 powered cars and have put over 180K miles on LT1/L99 powered cars. All my daily drivers since march of 2000. Just bought a "low milage" 125K 94 Caprice wagon the sedan has 180K on it and the Roady has 227K.

I just installed a reman WP this morning, if you're looking to replace, I've found no issues with reman WP's. Just make sure that the water inlet/outlets have adhesive around them... I have purchased a WP in the past that was put together without adhesive, and the thing leaked like crazy, and eventually the inlets would just fall out of the pump!

Oh, and make sure to keep things dry around the opti. Remove the lower bolts on the WP first, to drain the water without getting it all over your opti.
