Cubic Inches and block power
If you splay the mains and half fill the block the sky is pretty much the limit as far as rwhp prolly can go upto 1200-1500 or so

The typical "409" (408.18ci) is built with a 4.00" stroke and a 4.030" bore.
No problem with the bore. But the stroke makes life difficult. You will have
major clearance issues with the bottoms of the cylinder bores and the oil pan
rails. You will almost certainly need a small base circle cam. You will need a
huge oil pan. That's the reason you don't see too many LT1's larger than 396ci.
I've seen a guy build two different versions of a "421" on the LT1 block....
4.00" stroke x 4.090" bore (you need a hand-picked block, and will typically
need to get detailed cylinder wall measurements, so the bores can be
re-centered in the block to put the "meat" on the thrust side.)
4.125" x 4.030" bore (Let's just say 2 x the clearance issues of the 409).
I've also seen one person sleeve an LT1 block, to achieve a 427ci
displacement..... 4.00 stroke x 4.120" bore.
Anything over a 396 is not a cost effective solution. Even going to a 396
over a 383 is questionable. With a blower or turbos, you make 1,000+HP
with "only" 383ci..... how much more do you want?????
