Default Header Problem!!!

ok i installed Long tube pacesetter headers today on my 96 trans am, and i used mr gasket copper gasket, and i cranked it up without my o2's plugged up and first all , i have exhaust leaks around the headers and my bolts are tight, so i guessing its the gaskets? and whenever the cars running i have a ticking noise coming from the driver side header, and the more i give it gas the faster the ticking gets.... what is causing this? anyone have an idea? i have ngktr55 in it, but havent changed the plug wires , i am waiting on them to get here....so anyone have an idea?

Did you get in there with a gasket scraper and get all the old gasket off the head? The old gaskets like to bake on there.

copper gaskets suck, put some type of felpro or aluminum deadsoft type gasket in it and you should be good. I had the mr. gasket copper seals on my car for about 15min and they leaked like a hose. I put the percy's dead soft flange gaskets in and no leaks at all.

man i feel your pain. what it is is that your header flanges are a little warped or maybe just have minor irregularities on the flanges sealing surface. And yeah its unfortunately a exhaust leak. mine constantly leak a little and am disappointed in these copper one. i on the other hand i have had very good results with the alluminum ones and am going to replace these copper ones with some aluminum ones. copper just isnt soft enough, but aluminum is,and stronger than the traditional carbon ones

65.

Seriously - The 1405's are "square port" and the 1470's are "d-port"

I had the same f@$#ing problem 2 weeks ago with the same products you used. Those copper gaskets suck *** and leaked on every cylinder. I put on the earls gaskets with the inserts and it sealed up perfectly so far.
