Default ls1 rear brake conversion

so....from what i have read, ls1 brakes are the thing to do for the front of our cars and greatly increase stoppage. my question is what about the rears? is the rear conversion much more involved than the front? is it worth it? should i just go with a better rear rotor and pad instead and do the conversion on the front?

any thoughts, opinions, experiences are greatly appreciated.

edit - also...thoughts on type of rotors? i have read nothing but good about brembo blanks...any opinons...also anybody running drilled and/or sloted rotors...any negative effects from these?

Rears are .3" bigger, nothing significant like the fronts.

We were gonna do this on my buddy's 95Z when we swapped in the LS1 motor, because we had a donor 98 TA at our diposal. Did the front brakes, but when it came time to do the rears, I advised against it and he agreed.

The LS1 uses a different type of e-brake. Just to change the backing plates out, I believe you have to open the differential and remove the axles on both cars. After that there will be fitment issues with the e-brake cables.

After comparing the rotor sizes, and I wouldn't have said that the LS1s are any larger in diameter, but if it's .3"... I'll believe that. The LS1 rotor was A LOT wider, though.

All in all, I'd say its not worth it unless you're already putting in an LS1 rear end, and you have cheap axcess to an LS1 e-brake cable.

P.S. I've had the Baer Eradispeed Plus (Front)/Eradispeed (Rear) rotors on mine for over a year and I love them. No problems, and they're both drilled and slotted.

I would just stick with the front conversion. I have it and it does just fine. As mentioned above it would be a pain in the *** for little gain! By the way, I have some good ol' Raybestos rotors and they do me good!

Check out EBC brakes for rotors/pads http://www.ebcbrakes.com/Automotive.html. I love mine, they seem to work really well. They dimple drill and slot them which should keep them from cracking.

I would keep the LT1 Back Brakes..the Fronts are really where it matters, and they make a big difference.
That and the LT1 back Calipers are alot easier to grind on to put on 15" Draglites.

Cross, if it's free, upgrade them, if not, don't worry about it.
