Default Quick couple of cam questions...

I am going to be putting in a cc306, springs, locks, retainers here pretty quick. Also will be doing a set of shorties while the motor is out because my car is too low for LTs . The easiest way to do all this is to drop the motor correct ? While it is apart we are going to do some head work....my only question ( being new to lt1s and fuel injection for that matter ) will this car be driveable ( just 3 mile commute to home ) without a tune here for a week or two until I can order a mail order tune or take it to DFW to get it tuned somewhere? And if I were to take it somewhere in the DFW area where would ya'll suggest.

You most likely will have idle issues but you may manage with a stick to keep RPM's up at idle. Certainly won't perform as well without a tune.

Send the PCM off for tune while you have the motor apart.

A number of choices but my vote is

www.fastchip.com

also they and other mail order tunes can send you a 'loner" pcm for a deposit until you return your core.

A "on dyno" tune will yield optimum results but your set up is pretty common so a mail order will be very close.

Shorties?? Look into the Mac Mid-length headers..you should have no clearance problems with these and they are great qual!!

Well thats the problem I am going to do the cam and stuff on a weekend at the tire shop I work at and I don't want to have my car down for a week or so. I know it won't perform but I just need it to idle...and get 3 miles home at under like 50 mph... i live in town so... Hm, about headers...maybe that is what I was thinking...Mid lengths. I am used to having a fox body stang and a powerstroke so this is a whole new world to me... Opinions on whether it is easier to drop the whole motor to do a cam swap or just pull the radiator and every thing in the way? Also since I am putting in headers at the same time...I need opinions on which is easier?

Are there any shortcuts or tips to pulling the motor? And you can pull it with all the accessories and manifolds and everything on it right?
