hi flo colling fans
well here is my case and reason im making another thread. ive got an UD pullies and at idle my charge is just a smidge below 13, so im wondering if i go with a hi flow fan that pulls more will this affect my charging severly or should i still be fine? im really just wondering if anyone else running ud pullies has run into any problems when going to hi flo fans.
im in phoenix arizona and my car usually runs right around 210 which is totally not cool with me. i would like it to run under 200 if that means 190 then thats totally fine. please give me some suggestions oooooo wise ones of ls1tech. haha thanks guys!
you can have the PCM programmed to kick the fans on sooner.
One way around it is probably to raise idle by close to the under drive RPM. Stock 600 ud is 25% make idle 700. That will restore the alternators ability to handle the fans equal to stock vehicle.
Next I would use an additive, and lower fan turn on to be say 185 degrees when car is < 30 mph 195 above. This is what I do to keep my intercooler cool. Once vehicle is >30 mph air is usually sufficient to cool a maintained engine in any environment. The thermostat will not help since the engine is already above even the 180 set point in the summer everywhere.
I gave example rpm and temperatures you will need to determine the values in your car for your area.
Good luck

A manual fan switch will help as well b/c you can control the fan settings yourself. I installed this, a 160* t-stat, Samco hoses, and an E-WP and my engine is always nice and cool in the Texas heat (especially when I'm not - no a/c) The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
so my advice before you spend money on fans or anything else that might cost a nice chunk of change i would just get a simple tune as it will make your car run better all around. my car runs like a whole different beast now and i love it!
