stripped distributor gear
Anyone ever stripped a distributor gear?? If you have do you have any idea what caused it to strip? I have stripped two gears off and I have had two different motors and had the same problem in both motors. There are only a few things in the motor now that are the same as the first motor. The cam, the lifters and the retainer plate and the timing gears. all of which have about 7,000 miles on them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I went through that many years ago. Like mentioned make sure you have the proper gear for the cam you are running.
Next is proper placement. if the engine has been decked and such you will need to make sure the gear is meshing in the middle of the Distributor gear.
Try the Comp Cams Composit gear
Good luck!

had the same thing happen with a comp cam, chewed up a steel gear, replaced cam and used a cast gear started doing the same thing, used a brass gear only made it 6,000mi, then i switched to composite
comp cams doesn't make a composite gear that fits the LT1 shaft .425" (that i know of at least). i had to get the .500 composite gear and make a small brass sleeve to make it fit it was a real PITA but i has about 12,000 on it and no problems
