the SES light will randomly come on in my Camaro. Its OBD 1 and the light will not stay on for more than about a minute at a time so I am having trouble checking the code, any ideas on how to check it?

and teh car is definately not running right it is surging at cruise and almost feels like it has a misfire at idle. any help would be greatly appriciated.
