crank sensor?
I recently have changed the coil, opti, and the cap and rotor. Now my car is dying after driving a short distance, under 10 miles. When it dies it just shuts off, it don't sputter or anything. I checked the code and it is P0372, Timing reference signal A too few pulses. It says to check the crank sensor, wiring, or harmonic balancer. I checked the balancer, think it is fine. The wiring should be good, new harness. Also when I put the balancer back on after putting the opti on I turned the crank when trying to tighten the bolts. Suggestions welcomed.

No the balancer isn't keyed on lt1s. I put a reman opti in a 94 lt1 car once and it would die after it warmed up and wouldn't start back until it cooled down. Replaced opti with one from GM and fixed it. I dunno if that would help you or not, but it about drove me crazy tryin to fix that one.

I used a reman opti. It was suppose to be like the OEM. It will go for a little ways and die. Sometimes it will start right back up. Sometimes I have to set there for a couple of minutes. I wasn't throwing the P0372 code until after I changed the opti.

I read a P0372 in a 1997 f-body OBD2 as a high resolution (360 pulses per cam rev) circuit failure, aka: the high res signal from the opti used for timing reference. (P0336 & 7 are CS failures) Not sure why direction in the OP was to check crank sensor. Did your PCM come out of an F-body, if not I may be incorrect on the code please let me know. If the P0372 is correct you may have a defective new opti, poor connection or wire harness to the PCM. I've seen high res failures caused by oil or water/coolant on the opti connector or seeping into the opti.

the motor, transmission, and computer all came out of the same car. I took the crank sensor out last night and it looked a little scorched. It had some oil in with it. I am going to put a new one in today. As far as the motor dying it does it at about the same distance everytime, about 6 to 10 miles.
