Starting troubles The motor used to jump to life the moment I turned the key, but ever since I replaced the fuel pump, it's been getting worse. It doesn't want to start without a few seconds of cranking when cold. However, it restarts just fine if I turn it back on within a few minutes.
All ignition parts with the exception of the opti cap are brand new. Went back to the old cap when the new one turned out to be junk. The car doesn't exhibit any of the telltale signs of opti failure either, so I highly doubt it is an ignition issue. I suspect that the new fuel pump may be the culprit. The pump's whine changes pitch every time it primes the fuel system with the key in the on position. It also howls really loud when I shift from 1st to 2nd when running the car hard, although there's no difference in power.
What else could cause my starting troubles? Could a 142k mile engine lose compression so suddenly that it becomes hard to start when cold but runs fine otherwise? I imagine an engine worn out that bad would also exhibit other signs of trouble

no, its leaking fuel pressure back to the tank is my guess. did that pump come with a warranty? take that bitch back and get another one. or get an upgrade like a walbro 255lph or racetronix or something like that, cause a pump is too much of a punk to be changing often.

Slo' reilly's won't give me a refund on this POS that I had to get because I couldn't wait for the racetronix kit to arrive. It cost me more than the Walbro and it's total ***** to boot!
