need a motor now
well last week i was headed down to the track to see what i can get out of my car from all the winter work i did to it....well lets just say that didnt work out to good....the motor took a dump on me on the highway just doing the speedlimit.... i dont know really were to start now iam lookin at more likely a short block but dont really know where to look....iam just tryin to get some good info on where to go from here iam lookin at a bigger cam as well what r some good ones to look at ....TIME TO GO FASTER NOW

damn, whyd it blow? oil starvation?
I would go with either an AI package or a LE package. might as well do a 383 stroker while you're at it. both companies have several packages putting well over 400 to the rear, but still retain good driveability. i plan on going LE2 this winter myself

Are you going to spend the time and money to do this well or going to try and keep it budget??
If going the budget route I would strongly suggest you put a junkyard shortblock in it before a $2500 or cheaper stroker. Lots of people putting together "built" motors that perform worse than it would have on a stock shortblock and a surprising number of them actually blowing up sooner than a stock shortblock would have.

With that budget the only thing you can do well is a junkyard shortblock with maybe some fesh bearings/rodbolts to help reliability, keep the cam reasonable. That will work better than anything you could build so cheaply. You start getting into cheap pistons and they use thick stiff rings extra drag and wear, good machining costs money etc. The stock shortblock works very well for the price.
