Default Optispark Options For My 93 Lt1

I am presently rebuiding my 93 LT1 and wanted to know if I changed the cam and timing cover if I could use a 95 optispark on my 93 harness.

Nope.

You need the 95+ vented opti harness. Casper electronics sells them via summitracing.com its like $25.

Its basicly the same harness, but the opti end goes deeper into the optispark.

if i were you i would go ahead and spend the extra money and buy the msd probillet ignition it has +/-7% timing offset. plus it comes with the harness and all the vented tubes. Plus it is rateds a lot higher than the stock one. I found that our the hard way. I have had mine on my 93 T/A for over a year now and still just as happy with it

My msd unit crapped out after 8,000 miles. Not a good investment if you ask me..

The complete MSD opti is NOT living up to the hype.

Up side though is an MSD cap and rotor kit for your 93 will be enough to convert to vented. THey added vents to the new cap and rotor so no other changes are needed to the engine. Just have to run the vacuum lines to the manifold and intake plumbing.

Contact someone like Casper's and ask. Just because it is not online does not mean they can't easily make one.

Many people have issues with the MSD opti, not the cap and rotor on a stock base, only problem you can have there is not tightening the rotor screws enough and having it fall off.

Ok, well it seems like no one sells a complete harness. But, A friend of mine has a complete weather-pack/ metra-pack kit. So Im just going to make my own. I just need to know if each of the pins stays inline with the pins in the harness that hooks into the rest of the system.

I have an MSD opti, I have run it for about 10,000 miles, ZERO problems, about 80% of the complaints I have heard were from people who installed the seal incorrectly which led to a clearance issue with the rotor.

I have only heard of like a handful of people actually having a problem with the optical portion of the MSD unit.

I did a write up on it not to long ago, its a sticky in the LT1 section of www.ls1lt1.com, if you want to take a look
