Question Gen I/ Gen II Differences

I've been wading through the seas of LT1/LT4 tech and I still can't get a straight answer. I have a 93 Z28, and I have a 383 Gen I stroker out of a TPI '87 Firebird. I want to use all the LT1 based systems but I really don't want to go have another 383 built if I don't have to, and I want this as a daily ride so I want to stay away from a carb. Is there a way I can pretty much convert the Gen I to a Gen II LT1 for use in my car? SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!

The rotating assembly would work in the LT1 block if you had the block machined for the oversized pistons, clearance notches and a line hone.

Is the assembly worth it though? If cheap cast stuff and cheap pistons, probably not.

People are wy too quick to worry about adding displacement and miss the important things and go cheap on the wrong parts in an effort to make the engine "bigger" and endup with poor and mediocre results. Very real chance a stock LT1 shortblock is BETTER than many strokers, particularly older ones.

Is there a difference in the actual bare block though? Because from looking at both side by side they look the same. Can I slap the LT1 heads, oil pump, water pump, timing chain assembly, LT1 intake manifold, etc...

Heads no, WP no, timing chain maybe, intake no, ignition no. Best bet would be to take the rotating assy, have a machine shop fit it to your LT1. Clearance the block and go.

Yes there are difference in the bare block. Won't work. Take the RA and swap it over like everyone else is saying. What are your goals for the motor?

I wanted to be able to run 11.50 - 11.80 on motor, drive it daily, and occasionally hit it with a little giggle gas at the strip.

Sounds feasible.. Just use the rotating assembly on the LT1 block

I think that's what I'm gonna do. Either that or I've been in the market for buying a 383 from someone else so I can just do a 1-2-3 swap and not have the car down forever.
