cam install questions please help!

cam install questions please help! im currently workin on replacing my opti and so i have much of the front off the motor, would it be possible for me to cam it with a pretty mild cam and replace the lifters and leave the rest of the stock valvetrain? i would eventually add 1.6 rr and prob go to nsa but could i stick with the stock stamped steel and factory pushrods for a few weeks it i have time/ money to finish the project
You cannot run any cam other than the stock cam with the factory valve springs so you will have to change atleast that. The stock pushrods will only work if they are the correct length and that can only be determined by checking the length using a length checking tool. Chances are they will be the correct length still but it should be checked every time a new cam is put in because of the different base circles etc. Also you should definetly put a new timing chain in there if the stock one hasn't yet been replaced, a new stock gm chain would work fine.
