Default hot cam question

do you have to up grade to the hevy duty timming set that they recommend, witch would include a different timming cover and opti. i have a 94 and its telling me to upgrade to the 95 comonents.

No you do not need it but it is a good idea to replace the timing chain while you are there with a GM replacement. You do not need to convert over to the 95+ stuff. Just make sure the dowel pin on the hotcam is the same size as the dowel pin of the stock cam you pull out.

Stock LS1 is 3" and it fit perfect. It doesn't hit the exhaust, tunnel, or torque arm. Where is yours hitting?

I thought the '94s had a spline shaft, not a dowel pin. Am I missing something here?

You are correct. The LT4 Hot Cam ships with the longer dowel pin used to drive the '96+ (vented) Optis. The pin needs to be ground down (shortened) when installing in '94-95.

They still have a dowel pin for the timing gear. If it is too long it will rub the timing cover around the shaft seal.

Yeah, just grind the pin down. It'll be fine.

You don't even have to grind it. You can just knock it into the cam a little further usually.
