does anyone know what this is?

i found a vacuum line on my car that went to the bottom of the pass side frame rail by the horns, it was just layin their not hooked up to anything so i went to the junkyard to look at another car and found this but it just looks like a vacuum canister, does anyone know what its purpose is?

That is what it is, if its the thing that bolts to the pass side frame near the front of the car: Vacuum resevoir for the HVAC system that will maintain vent position in the case of low vacuum.
