quick coolant question

alright thanks, another quick question, i have some kind of gunk floating in my coolant and i think its causing my car to overheat and not cool itself properly. The fans are working and the water cirulates in the radiator when i let the car warm up like the thermo is opening and stuff. So will a good flush to get all this crap out of the system help it to stop overheating?
yea it should robbie, but sometimes there is alot of gunk and sediment build up at the bottom rows of the radiator that may be hard to get out.
also i was always told when you drain something like the coolant or oil it is better to do it when its warmer because when its warmer more of the gunk will come out, when its cool the gunk settles and hardens. but that just might be me blowing steam but it always sounded logical to me. have they still been having those thursday meets over on northern?

Definitely use either the green stuff or universal. Dexcool is bad news. Its kinda corrosive to gaskets. A 1994 should have green in it anyway. Just make sure you get all the red out because they do not mix.

alright guys the red stuff is only in my car because thats what was in it when i bought it and multiple shops told me that their books say its supposed to be in there. But i have read before that alot of guys were running the green stuff cause its better. Thanks for all the advice i dont really have time to do this myself so im going to take it to a shop this weekend to get the work done. Im going to make sure they flush it all out before re filling the car with the green stuff.

Im in college for auto tech and Ive heard nothing but bad things about Dex_cool
I personally run the Pro-Blend Coolant and my car did run a good 10 degrees cooler than it did with the Green stuff
I get it at work for like 15 bucks but I know its 30 at o Reilly's since I had to drain and re fill my block once and is pissed me off that I just ran over to that store and its twice as much

EDIT: Or you can get a manual fan switch.

Manual Fan switch is the way to go imo or at least have a toggle spliced in with the Fan relay so on those hot days you can kick them on right when you start the car. . I bought my car tuned with alower t-stat
Though on my thirdgen I know I had put in a 160 and the loop status wouldnt change because it never fully warmed up I dont know if this is as much of an issue on the lt1s though I would let is hit closed loop and then turn them on

What are you talking about? The stat is a mechanical valve, nothing to do with the PCM. Even if you have a 160* stat, after a prolonged period @ idle on a stock tune you will sit at 210*. If you tune your fan settings to a lower temperature, then your temps will stay lower. Same with a manual fan switch.
Fan settings are independent of the thermostat.
