Default Still chasing this oil problem...

Ok so I have the motor out to swap in the new Formula and I am using this time to do the EGR Plates, Long Tubes etc. I also felt why not its been under 3000 miles but lets do the plugs... and holy hell..

For some time now I have been having a problem oil in the IM. I bought some spec Intake Manifold Gaskets from GM after trying everything else to stop oil from getting into the IM.

Now after fixing the leaky washer ring around the Oil Level Sensor I was fine for about a week my oil level not moving... until the sensor itself started leaking where the harness plug goes... great. (again leading me to believe that the oil catch can and PCV changes had fixed it.... but yet there is still oil in the Intake Manifold...)

So as I said I pulled the plugs and they were all coated with oil, every single one. So I doubt its rings (again the motor has less then 3000 miles) esp since its on all of them... but its def an issue...

I am looking for idea's. I will have the IM off shortly but if there is anything else it could be I would really like any idea's.

Thanks

Im going to take a stab and say MAYBE valve seals? That would be one reason as to why your spark plugs are coated with oil. It MIGHT also be responsible for what you have in the intake manifold itself, but thats more of a stretch.

I was thinking that could be some of it too... but then the car only smokes when you floor it like its sucking oil in from somewhere... that's what has me miffed, if you stay out of it there's no problems with smoke.

Did it always smoke or did it just recently start smoking? You said you swapped a motor, is this a stock rebuilt or something bigger?

Ok I got the IM off and its got what looks like a coin slot that someone did themselves on the side....

On the note of the motor, its a rebuilt LT4 but since I got it there has been a problem, when you floor it the car blows out gray smoke. I have added a catch can, changed the PCV Valve, added a second one and I would always find oil in the intake manifold.

Anyway I am trying to upload pics currently and I will post them. I have no idea how else the oil could be getting in this is the only spot I can see that would allow it.

Light gray, dark gray/black, or blue smoke?

Light gray (or pretty much white) would be a head gasket (coolant).
Dark gray/black would be a rich condition.
Blueish smoke is obviously oil.

I am sure you already know this, but are you sure its oil and not a rich condition?

On the note of the oil in the intake manifold and on the plugs, the only reason I could think of (If your rings arent bad) would be valve seals.

Its dark and while pulling the motor I found an O2 Sensor that the connector had melted so obviously there is one problem.
We also did it quite a few times with myself and another friend behind the car and yeah... crying and all it was gas lol.

Yeah fix that O2, one whole bank was more than likely running pig rich. See what the smoke situation looks like after that, you plugs could have been just fouled with fuel (sometimes it does look like oil).

Well it was the same for all the plugs not just one side, which is what has me confused.

But that cut out in the IM what do you make of that?

I dont ever remember seeing a cutout in the intake manifold like that, but then again I never really studied it carefully all the times Ive had mine or others out. Someone else who has theirs off would have to compare as I dont have a spare to take pics of (pics would help greatly).

that "coin slot" is Factory, notice how the casting goes out and around it.
what its for, i am not sure since an LT1 intake manifold doesnt have it. but my best guess is something to do with PCV.

i think there is an LT4 specific message forum online somehwere, try searching for it.

ever done a compression test on that motor?

Not yet but thats the next thing on the list.

If its not on the LT1 type I am going to weld it shut then as this is the last reason I can find for oil getting into the IM.
