Default E Brake Woahs!

Okay so earlier this summer my ebrake cable snapped in half so I finally got around to putting a new one in. As soon as I got it in it was working great. Was very tight and only had to pull up about half way to get full holding power. Now that it's been in for a week it now goes all the way up without much force and doesn't hold my car worth a ****. Also it has to be sticking onto my rotor because there is a lot of play near with the handle in the down position and when I'm driving you can feel the e brake holding the car back. I will decelerate between gears, harder to start the car from a stop, and I could smell it cooking on the highway....this car has been nothing but a bitch all summer long (Rob can vouch). So what can I do about this

sounds like the rear calipers sticking. Unless some how you totally messed up the cable install.

yeah mine snapped last year...didnt feel like replacing it...looked like a PITA, but to the OP i agree, it sounds like a stuck caliper.

Haha, sounds like what Ive got going. 2+ years here, and no intention of fixing it

At least I can scare passengers by ripping it up randomly on the highway.... You guys should see the look on some peoples faces

Yeah post back with the results, Im interested to see how it turns out. And Im with everyone else on the caliper sticking, you already know its dragging so Im sure if you get to the bottom of that you will find your problem with the Ebrake also.

well i got it in the air...while laying under the rotor i had someone pull the e brake and it was very inconsistent. sometimes it wouldnt move at all and sometimes just a lil and then one time they put the handle down and it finally released all the way and finally there was tension on the handle again...no idea why my parking brake is sticking at all

How did the other cable break? Was is corroded and snapped or just snapped?

There could still be some rust, junk, debris ect. inside where the cable goes and not allowing free travel.

it was actually the front cable that broke...i have no idea how it broke but it broke right near the e brake handle. After looking at it w/ friends we couldn't really find anything wrong. The rear lines were almost like siezed up it seamed and after moving them around a bit it worked again

I've had a random problem like this. When I park it. I put my foot on the brake and pump the e-brake handle up and down. Only takes about 3-4 times before it stiffens back up and holds my car good.

It could actually be something like a colapsed brake line. I've heard of it happening before.

I have yet to have a problem with the actual Ebrake part. The only part I am having trouble with is the Ebrake handle, and the spring-loaded button...HOW the hell do you get that back in the handle and hooked?
