Default straight or angled main caps

i am looking into turning my 2- bolt main into a 4- bolt main, looking on summits websight i found 2 differant types of main caps, straight outers or angled outers. i guess i was just wondering if the angled ones will even work on an lt1 and if it would be worth the hassle. Here are some links to them...

The argument never ends as to which is better. In the end what you should be doing is talking to the guy you want to do the machining, see what he likes and let him spec the brand if not outright supply the caps.

i think ur refering to the "splayed" main caps.....from everything i hear....they are better....they require a little machining to install.....but well worth it

I guess some do like to argue and call members names, just for the fun of it.
But if you look into the physics (statics) of it, the splayed mains will support more force than the straight main caps. They distribute the force along both the X and Y axes, making them stronger.
And machining will be required, whichever way you choose.
Best of luck.

You also have to be careful in this area, I read an article in Hot Rod where it was noted that sometimes converting to 4 bolt from a 2 bolt actually weakened the block because there was not enough material (metal) in the cap area and once machined out there was less meat causing metal fatigue and ended in main cap failure..Supposedly blocks that came out as a 4 bolt have thicker webs, I guess if you can find someone with a true 4 bolt not one that has been converted and measure the thickness and see if this is true for the SBC..
