First post - LT4 front main seal question
This is my first post and I was hoping someone could help me out with some thoughts about my oil leak.
I have a low mileage -96 Corvette CE LT4 Z51. I bought her with 13K miles on her a year and a half ago. Now she has 15,250 miles on her. Nice to have a low mileage car but the downside is that seals and gaskets dry out. I have already had a leaky water pump replaced and now found oil on the cross member below the crank pully. I hoped at first it was just the o ring in the crank position sensor but now am pretty sure it's the main front seal. I would like to get it fixed but am afraid of colateral damage. I read that the motor mounts have to be unbolted and the motor jacked up. Has anyone had this problem and had it fixed? Can you share your experience good or bad? Cost? WHen they raise the motor can't things get kinked like the fuel lines? The motor is still attached to the tranny etc can't this cause other leaks?. I was thinking of actually just living with it but the leak is getting worse.
thanks,
trebor
As for jacking the engine up: to remove the oil pan you have to jack the motor up an inch or two so you can remove the timing cover.
