problem shifting 3rd

problem shifting 3rd last night when i was racing i flat shifted 3rd like i usually do and it felt like it wen in and when the clutch came out the whole car shook violently almost like a really bad wheel hop ...i almost lost the car..and i pulled the clutch back in and it stopped instantly... i did another pull and it did the same thing...i then tried shifting easier into third and it would slide in and hold fine...its a 2000 ss that has bolt ons and 33k on it with stock clutch and drives fine except for these two incidents and the pedal feels fairly firm and doesnt stick...is my stock clutch starting to go and need replaced or could it be a trans issue...also could it maybe be a problem with the shifter its the stock hurst shifter...any help is appreciated.
