3rd gear problem - kind of weird.
3rd gear problem - kind of weird. Kind of a weird thing. Went to the track yesterday. Made a couple runs, no problems. Then on 2 consecutive runs 3rd gear just wasn't there. What I mean was, I did my burnout (2nd gear), launched - made the 1-2 shift (no problems there), then went for third and it wasn't there. I did not hit the gate (I've done that in the past a couple times), and the gear didn't grind. Its like it was in front of the slot for 3rd but just didn't go - but no grinding???WTF?
The car shifts fine on the street (really low rpms). I have not had a chance to try and duplicate the hard 2-3 shift yet to see if it is still doing it. I am kind of at a loss, and pretty fed up with my car right now. The tranny is still "fresh." It was rebuilt over the winter, and hasn't had any incidents of grinding or anything until yesterday.
Any thoughts?

This same thing happened to me, I have not had it fixed yet, but I'm having synchros put in along with a steel 3-4 fork and a Mcleod adjustable master and an 02 slave. That should guarantee it doesnt happen again. But... scroll down and look in that post, there are a few different opinions there. 
Re: 3rd gear problem - kind of weird. I have upgraded hydraulics with a Spec Stage 3 clutch. No power shifting ever. If it were a clutch/pp problem, I would think it would be worse on the 1-2 shift as that would be the harder shift (yes?), but it makes that shift perfectly. Could be shift fork of course.
Tomorrow I'm going to give it a run and see what it does on the street - see if it happens again.

Re: 3rd gear problem - kind of weird. Which Hydraulics do you have. If its not the mcleod adj master its not updtaed. Its just adjustable. I chased this problem for a long time. In my case it was the shitty stock hydraulics. I put in a Mcleod mast and as is well. All after market MC's are are just stock MC's with adjustable arms. IMOP the stock hydraulics suck, you could re bleed it it might work for another month or two. I did this for a year and went through 3 masters. Finally I bought the McLeod and all is well so far. Its only been a few months but seems great.
