Default Manual or Automatic?

OK Guys I am in the market for a C5 Vette and wanted to know which is the way to go? I figure that I will mod it but not go crazy. My thinking is the manual will be less expensive because I will not need stall converters plus no torque management issues what do you guys think? Any other suggestions on What to look for ie what year hardtop or coupe whatever info you have is appreciated.

I think you've already made up your mind as to what you want. After all, you posted this in the manual section, eh?

Don't think that manuals are cheaper. Clutches are expensive, and they wear out (unlike torque converters). And on C5's, they're a PITA to replace.

No TM is a plus tho.

I have an a4 camaro. It's more consistent and faster at the track. However, it gets kinda boring to drive sometimes. I did want an m6 but saw my car and fell in love with it.
You dont have to buy an expensive torque converter but u do have to buy an expensive cluth/flywheel. It depends on what u want the car for ,i guess.
GOOD LUCK WITH UR CHOICE!

I totally agree. I think if the track is important to you and you want the bragging rights of low ETs, then it's hard to knock the mighty A4. But if the street is where you plan to spend most your time, then an M6 is more fun and better from a roll. It really is personal choice. As for expense, the A4 will be cheaper in the long run.

M6= higher trap speed, more power to the ground, more fun to drive(opinion), stronger from a roll

A4= better in traffic, torque multiplication, and with a TC nasty from a dig.

Good luck,
Mike

I had a C5 with an A4 before this car. It ran mid/high 11's and was a fun car but wasnt fun enough. We have some great mountain roads here and a C5 with an auto/3000 stall and Z51 suspension was just plain wrong on a winding mountain road..

When I lived in Chicago the A4 was great in traffic, kicked butt stoplight to stoplight and was awesome in the 1/4 mile BUT nothing can be more boring then an A4 car around here on a 1/8 mile dragstrip.

Putting a torque converter in an A4 vette is almost as much of a pain as the clutch, done both several times. The syncros (different design then the f-bodies) in the M6 vettes seem to hold up better then F-bodies but the clutches in the 97-00s are just as crappy as f-bodies. They last if they arent beat though..

I miss an auto at the dragstrip but I went with an M6 in this car, have a lot more fun with it but the trans is out of it getting rebuilt Thought a few times about switching to an auto but I am having too much fun (costly fun but fun) to put an auto in..
