Can somebody explain to be the fundamental differences between a pro shifted t56 and a stock t56? I have seen the term "pro shifted" thrown around and whould like to know exactly what it entails...

Re: Pro Shifted T56
thanks
when you say quicker shifting do you mean the trans can be powershifted?
do you know where i could get the synchros to do this? i'm really interested in this as i'm moving to a 427 with a fogger setup....

Liberty can build you a pro shifted trans, and it's really not that expensive. From what the guys over there told me, driving on the street will be somewhat of a challenge. Basically, they do away with the standard synchronizers and weld some sort of synchro onto your gears. I would just call them and discuss it, as I basically don't know jack about how they do it.

Re: Pro Shifted T56
From what I have been told by someone who has driven one (a pro shifted T56), it's a serious pain in the *** on the street. Wasn't 'enjoyable' at all. And don't let Coach see this thread. His experience was none too good with his Liberty T56...

Pro shifted: good for track bad for street I have a pro shifted doug nash 5speed which I drive on the street I hate it very hard to shift. Iam looking for a t56 for a winter project and getting rid of the nash. But any ways liberty can proshift your gears for $66 per gear. All though for a track car its the only way to power shift a 8000 rpm with-out a problem and fast.

Re: Pro Shifted T56
so you can't even downshift at all? does the car have to be stopped to downshift? my problem is that i'm breaking stock ones now (just brok second one two weeks ago) and am going to be using a 240 dp shot soon (then once i assemble my 427 ill be spraying more)......i shift it pretty hard at the track and have had poor luck with the stock synchros. i just bought a rebuilt one from ESP with polished internals along with viper internals and hope that it will hold up with the abuse one the track with the upcoming setups.......
maybe i should get the necessary parts for a pro shifted trans and install them in my current t56 and just use that trans during racing season......
keeping a stick is such a pain but i hate autos!

You could down shift but very carefully double clutching helps. You have to feel your way into the gear as there are no syncros at all the gear is machined and a dog ring is welded on which looks like this follow link.http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/98378/index.html

Re: Pro Shifted T56
looks like i might get the pro shift internals and then install them in my current trans.
i purchased a trans from ESP with polished internals and viper components. hopefully this will last longer than what i have now....but when i assemble my 427 im not sure how much it will withstand the abuse it will endure with the 300+ shot

Re: Pro Shifted T56
I have used my Liberty pro-shifted T-56 all season and it has worked great for me, My friend had the 1st ever about 4 years ago and was running in the nines on motor with it. The street driving is not great but once you get used to it it's not that bad. The only reason I am selling mine is that I am going with a clutchless 5 speed from Liberty's. If anyone is interested the trans is for sale for $1200 with a pro 5.0 shifter and the slave..
