Default Problem with 6th gear

Help, my t56 has started acting up and not letting me shift into sixth gear. Its really hard and I have to giggle the shifter around to get it into sixth gear. Any advice?

Does it go in when the car's not running, with/without the clutch pressed in?

How many miles on the trans, when was the last fluid change, and has 6th ever given trouble in the past?

doesnt go into sixth when cutoff. The fluid was changed last in august.Along with new throw out bearing and a clutch. So what happened was, I was coming home one night and giant possumn ran out in front of me, locked the brakes down. Couldnt tell if I had hit it or not so I backed up very quickly and when pulled out of reverse went back into sixth gear, thats when the sixth gear problem started. The car has 167,000 miles, I had it since 134,500 miles. Unsure if tranny ever rebuilt. Thanks for the help

Sounds like it's time for a new 6th-gear blocker ring, and possibly a new slider and 6th gear depending on the vehicle speed when the mis-shift occured..

Luckily that work can happen with the trans in the car if needed, and shouldn't require reshimming. If it has ~170K miles on it though, you might want to drop it and freshen it up completely..

(Looks like you're only 75mi from Tick, so give Joey a call if you're not sure you can DIY..)

Thanks for all the help. Yea Ill prob do it myself, how much is an estimation on the parts minus the six gear? Yea if its deep ill give Tick a call, Ive heard good things about them, I have a good tranny man but he does'nt do t56 because he only know one person with one and thats me so he hasnt purchased the tools for all of the tear down on the t56. Im looking at getting a CTSV or GTO in the spring, but may build the TA.

If you can get just the 6th gear blocker, it will be $20-$30. The slider would be $100-$150, likewise for the 6th gear. Tick can sell you parts also.
