T56 Grinding noise...
I have a 95 T/A that makes a nasty grinding noise when the drivetrain unloads after hard acceleration. The car is modified with some aftermarket heads and a mild hydraulic cam with nitto drag radials. The clutch is a Ram unit with only about 5000 miles on it. Has anybody else experienced this? I'm not driving it because I don't want to damage it any further and it sucks being I've had it for the last 13 years and this is the longest I've went with out it. I thought I would ask to try and save some time. Overall mileage is 110K and it still goes thru all the gears without grinding (makes me wonder about the clutch set up). Any help is greatly appreciated.
Did it just start doing this all at once? Does it seem to be related to rpms or speed at all, or just after a hard run? Do you feel any vibrations, or just hear grinding? Does it matter if the clutch is engaged or dissengaged?
It only makes the grinding noise after medium to hard acceleration and it just started all at once. It seems to have stayed the same since it started and I can feel it thru the shifter a little. As far as clutch engagement goes, it does it with or with out it engaged. It only seems to do it in first, second, third, and I haven't really noticed anything after that. Whats weird is it happens after I let off the throttle. It almost sounds as if something is dragging. I guess I need to pull the tranny out and check the clutch at the same time.
