t56 swap i have a 71 nova with a th350 and i want to put the t56 that has the .50 6th gear so i can run 3.73 gears and still get good mileage. my question is what all does it take to do the swap? how much of the tunnel will i need to cut and fabricate? will the t56 hold up to my 383 that puts out 500ftlbs of torque? any information is greatly appreciated
383+500ft lbs= yes the t56 will hold, you will need to mod your trans mount, and im not sure if you will have to mod the trans tunnel or not, i was wondering about shifter location my self because im doing a lt1 t56 swap in a x-body id like to keep the bench seat. but i would like to know about the tunnel
CHP has done a few articles on fitting T56's into older muscle cars.. Here's one on the 1st gen camaros:

If you don't mind running the late-model hydraulics, it's not too bad. If you use older mechanical pedal linkages, you need to look into an adapter plate.
Either way, the shifter location can be an issue.
