Help with a schizophrenic clutch please
I can't figure this thing out.
- It works fine, then it drops to the floor with only about an inch of actual clutch engagement/disengagement. Then it works again.
- Sometimes if I pump the pedal while driving the amount of 'slack' gets worse, sometimes it gets better.
- If it has 'slack,' the clutch will slip. If all is well with the pressure/return, the clutch holds.
- If I romp on the car and cause the clutch to slip a little, almost inevitably it works fine for the next few miles.
- Once I've driven 15 miles or so, it seems to continue working as a clutch should. (It's worse when everything is cool).
- I haven't had the clutch actually stick to the floor yet, but if it wasn't for the rinky-dink return spring it would have...
- No leaks. Fluid level never changes.
I've bled it manually. I've bled it with a power bleeder. I've tried different fluid.
I've read the sticking clutch pedal write-up - nothing new there...
The only thing I can come up with is that there is still air in the system somehow. My next step, I think, is to drop the transmission and bench bleed everything. I suppose that something could be wrong with the master or slave, but I would think that the issue would be more consistent.
Any ideas? This thing is driving me batty!
I'll post back if this helps or not.
Guess I need to get in touch with McLeod now and find out why this new master has problems.
