Help me pick a clutch
Help me pick a clutch My current clutch is starting to slip. I have a 125 NX system and I cant use it because my clutch will be toast for sure. I go to the track about 4 times a year and the rest of the time its a daily driver. My wife drives it once in a while so clutch pressure will be an issue. Its a 98 (35K miles) want to upgrade slave, adj. master and flywheel. I have a budget of $1,400 including install. I dont know anything about clutchs and have no idea whats which is best for me.
Re: Help me pick a clutch I'm pretty happy with my Spec stage III. It makes a little noise, but other than that has worked great. I paid $375 shipped, had the flywheel resurfaced for $15 and installed it myself. You can use the money left over on a drive shaft. ; )

Re: Help me pick a clutch Cartek's ceramic and bronze disc complete assembly lasted in my car for two years before I recently had minor issues. I ran it with a stock motor with 150 shot of dope on, plus all the bolt ons. Then ran it with a stage II set of heads from GTP and a TR 224/224 112 cam with the dope. The thing never stuck, never slipped, and always grabbed hard. I just recently ran a ton of horsepower through it on the dyno and I think that is what casued the master to go out, I am no expert on these things at all. As a user of cartek, I would highly recommend it.

Re: Help me pick a clutch I would not recommend the Cartek unit. Mine was installed by Cartek with their adjustable master and the first time to the track with slicks it exploded taking out the input shaft on my tranny, the bellhousing, the headers, heater core and even tore chunks out of the engine block. I have about $11,000 in damage and will never put it in my car again. I'm lucky it didn't come through the floor and take my leg off. There are people who have sucess with it, but there are also those who had a similar experience to mine. Just my experience.
I broke my 10 bolt twice with only 2000 miles on the clutch.

Re: Help me pick a clutch Spec III has help many 5K dumps at the track and not had issues. I also have a line lock and heat the ET Streets pretty good before I pull up to the line. Stock clutch would get soft just heating the tires. I ordered the hydraulics from SPEC when I ordered the clutch. They told me the Drill Out mod was not needed with their set up. I am pleased. Street driving is not bad either. Just need to get used to a clutch that grabs hard.
