Default Reverse Problem

I just picked up a 2000 firebird formula 6 speed t tops. Mint condition with 75,000 miles. The only big issue is when i put it into reverse it will pop out, and if i try and hold it in place it will making a loud booming sound. All the other gears from 1-6 are 100%, just an issue with the reverse. Can anyone help me diagnos this problem. thanks

If it goes right into 1st gear with out issues , chances are the reverse fork pads and possible the reverse syncro need to be replaced .

That depends on who does the repair and if they will only fix that issue . Most shops prefer to tear it all the way down and go through it completely .
