Missed 2nd-3rd in a C5
Missed 2nd-3rd in a C5 I had my C5 at the track and when quick shifting from 2-3 I missed the gate and the result was essentially trying to force it into 5th. On the way home from the track there were two symptoms.
1. Won't shift into 5th from 6th, but will shift into 5th from other gears.
2. Speed sensitive vibration present in 4th and 5th gear from about 35-45mph.
The trans came apart tonight and nothing looked too out of place with 5th/6th but the 5th side of the fork, the nylon pads were definitely deformed. Still very present but not as pristine as the pads on the 6th side of the fork. Could a worn pad cause this issue? The synchro and keys all looks to be in fine shape. There were some strange markings on 5th gear itself, just inside where the synchro body engages which resembled the synchro splines, but I don't see how the synchro could be that far misaligned during a shift.

I'm no tranny specialist, but have had similar issues with other gears. Sliders can be worn, main shaft can have runout and will cause shifting issues. There is a manual you can download that will provide measurements and tolerances.
