Default reverse grinding

i was looking at a car, and all gears engaged smoothly, except reverse. i couldnt get it in nor did i want to chance it as it was grinding like a semi truck. i was thinking the blocker ring was bad since there are no synchros for R. well thats one thing that it could be. the clutch was disengaging nicely and all other gears were cool.

anyone think it could be the blocker? if so how much would it be to fix it?

if your at a dead stop and the clutch is disengaged, then there is no motion in the trans, which means nothing should be grinding... well i suppose the input shafts could spin momentarily after you push the clutch in but not for long, especially with the resistance of the grinding. that would slow them down and stop it.

therefore it would seem to me the clutch must not be disengaging all the way. you may not notice it in the forward gears because the sync's are helping it get in gear.

There is a Synchro in Reverse.. it's brass.

Possibly one of the D-rings broke, mine is currently like that.

Don't know.. I'm doing mine myself. I got the whole Reverse Slider/Synchro Assembly for $85, it's a new part.

The D-rings on it are Steel, from what I was told by a friend the stock ones in the T56 are a hard plastic..that's for the Reverse Slider aswell as the other Sliders too. They break really easy. I plan on getting a re-build kit so hopefully they are all metal.

yea i was thinking it would only be 300 max to rebuilt reverse if that is the problem. i dont know if it is the clutch or not because its smooth to engage 1st-6th. process of elimination shows its that. but like said above how if there RPM in the trans if the clutch is disengaging.
