Stuck in 4th!!!

Default Stuck in 4th!!!

Ok, my friend just called, he was in 4th gear and he couldn't get it out. Stayed this way for about 5-10 minutes while trying to drive around town. At stop lights the clutch would engage and idle the engine, however shifter still stuck in 4th, could not force out. All of a sudden it just popped right out and started shifting fine. Any ideas what could have caused that??? I don't think he has seen the last of it, especially since he has a 408 with LS7 clutch and factory T56. Hopefully he has, but these cars tend to give a heads up that something is wrong sometimes.

It's the synchronizer inserts (keys) for the 3-4 synchronizer. At least one of them is bent.

Cool, I appreciate the quick response. We kinda discussed the synchro as being a likely culprit.

Guess he is gonna learn the hard way.... 408 with stock tranny, and drive train for that matter...lol, if you read this Josh, UPGRADE that drive train of yours...ASAP!!!

the exact same thing happened to me about a year ago. i was on the highway. i dropped it into 3rd and took off, then i shifted into 4th and when i went to shift into 5th it wouldn't come out of 4th. i pushed in the clutch and pulled over to the side of the road. i tried to force it out and it would not go. it wasn't making any noise or grinding, just stuck like the damn thing was in a brick of cement! i finally popped it out. i never had any problems since that night. i have taken it to the track twice, and beat on it everyday since that night. still shifts like brand new, never sticks, and never makes noise. i didn't have to change a thing.

im glad i jus seen this bc im in the middle of pulling my trany....but not no more...lol...same thing happen with me...i grabbed 4th and went to shift out and it was stuck...i jerked the clutch a couple of times while pushing on the shifter and it came....havnt had a problem since but was still kinda scared it was gona **** out one day...ill jus tighten everything back up and throw my new pro 5 0 on it and call it a day....ha

Same thing happened to me except it was under normal driving. The shifter cup ended up coming loose.

hAS happened to me multiple times and everytime it has been the 3-4 syncro keys and springs.. i would sugest up grading to the billet keys and hardened springs

I had this happen to me last year. My problem was the shift pad f**king broke and was barely holding on. A damn shift pad that cost what .02. lol
