Slipping Issues
Story:
About 15,000 miles ago(80k on the car), my pressure plate was starting to fail in disengaging the clutch. So I purchased a SPEC stage 1 clutch and installed it myself. However, due to money issues, I did not re-surface the flywheel, or replace the slave. About 5,000 miles later, the clutch started slipping and getting progressively worse. I figured it was the old slave leaking on the clutch disk- and I was right, when I pulled it back apart. Now that I had it apart for the second time, I replaced the slave, replaced the contaminated disk with a centerforce disk, resurfaced the flywheel, and cleaned the pressure plate and bellhousing of the leaky slave. Now, about 5,000 miles after the second installation, I noticed that the clutch slips some if I mash on the gas from low RPM in 3rd gear and higher. The "holding force" during acceleration is fine, but it is slipping during the situations with high stress on the "holding force."
My question:
Does it sound like there is something contaminating the clutch disk again, or does the SPEC stage 1 pressure plate just SUCK that bad?
In truth slippage could be caused several things. I am not sure of the thickness of the disc you are using now but if it had a different thickness than our disc than this could certainly be part of the problem. It is also possible that the plate, as a result of heat caused when you had slippage previously, has worn excessively and it thus no longer flat. Or that the plate got so hot from the previous slippage that the diaphragm has been affected, weakening it and allow slip to occur again. You could also be having an issue with contamination again. Of course, it is hard to know what the cause is with the parts in the car. If you want to send me some pics of the unit and measurements of the parts I would be happy to assist you further. Just let me know. Thanks and have a good evening!
