Default Replaced the clutch & slave....problems...

So I had the clutch pedal sticking to the floorboard every once in a while, never had high rpm shifting problems so I thought it'd be the slave. Car is at 90k so it seems time to replace the clutch anyway...so I bought the parts and off we go.

The whole job sucked, as Ive never done it before, but it was simple enough. After putting everything back together I have 2 very noticeable problems that Id like to see if anyone has insight on:

1) Clutch engages about 3/4" from floor. This I feel can be remedied by a shim....but that means taking it ALL back apart. Gah. Synchros feel like they're working hard to get it in first, less in other gears, and not at in to R.

2) Theres a very noticeable "whurring" noise coming from the clutch assmebly area. It revvs with the engine, happens in all gears and with the clutch in & out. I was pretty careful and don't think theres anyway I left something hanging on the flywheel?? Any ideas?

Also, seems like no matter how much I bleed the slave there are still bubbles every once in a while in the line. Im praying the master doesnt need to be changed too, this has already gotten pricey.

What kind of clutch? If its a spec then you NEED to put the shim in or you will eventually have tranny problems like I did and need a rebuild. Someone put a thread up on which ones need a shim and which dont. Obviously stock and Monster dont need a shim. Put up some more info on what kind and what all you replaced and people can help more.

I got the SPEC stage 1 clutch, and the RAM I believe slave. I swapped the TO bearing to the one that came with the SPEC as it seemed more sturdy. I didnt put that shim in because the instructions said on dual clutch setups or something it is necessary....then again why would they give it to me if it wasnt haha

Maybe SPEC-01 will chime in here but I thought ALL spec clutches needed the shim? Did you swap the flywheel or get the stock one machined? As much as it sucks I would pull it apart and stick the shim in you would be alot happier in the long run and not damage your trans.

The flywheel barely had but a couple small burns on it so I left it....kinda silly since I have access to a lathe in a machine shop. I guess I will repull the whole thing and resurface the flywheel and add the shim........I dread this process again

The shim is intended for installation in all F-body and Super-Twin kits for use in LS1 applications. That being said, you need the shim. It will raise the pedal engagement point and allow the clutch to fully release. Let me know if you have any further questions and I will be happy to assist you. Thanks,
