Default something wrong?

well im more or less of new at manual transmissions. i learned how to drive manual in a 04 z06 and have driven an 07 z06. I have recently purchased an 02 trans am and i think its having some problems. it has 21000 miles on it, and there are signs of some bigger wheels and tires on it (rubbing in the wheel well). though that dosent mean a previous owner beat on it but its still likely.

so heres whats going on:
1: while doing a bit of a burn out it dosent shift into second (im like everyone else i wanna do a burn out or two) i fully press the clutch in and throw the shifter but it dosent go into second
2: when not burning out but still going as fast as it can it does the same thing.
3: occasionally (happened twice) when going into reverse the shifter goes into reverse but when i depress the clutch it made a grinding noise (may have been my fault, mayby not being all the way in reverse)

now i did all of this in the vettes and never had any of those issues. while i have a few performance parts coming should i do a new clutch to? (headers, z06 cam, ported throttle body, ported intake, lid, ported maf, and a cat back, still thinking about rocker arms)

any advice is greatly appreciated

Thanks

Well, as I said above, there is NO reason (unless you want to break ****) shift into 2nd gear while doing a burnout.
Now, if you are having a hard time shifting into 2nd, as in from a dead stop, you take off in 1st, then try and hit 2nd, but does not go...then could be synchro, 2nd gear itself, fork pad, key, etc...(really not surprising though)

Would also like to comment...teh Zo6's you drove. Whose were they? Were they with you when you were doing this? If so, did they smack you?

The fluid is either getting hot or the master and/or slave is starting to go. Mine was shifting fine until trying to shift at redline. Replacing the master and slave fixed that. The clutch not wanting to come back up after a couple of hard shifts is another symtom. I also started using high temp fluid and changing the fluid in the reservoir periodically. That problem has not returned since.

Ahhh, OK.

Well, here is teh basics:

When having a problem with 1 or 2 gears only, it is tranny related.

If having problem with all or most gears, then clutch or hydraulic related.
