Default hurst pro billet?

does anyone have an opinion on the Hurst Pro Billet vs. some of the other aftermarket shifters? I have a factory hurst, but I really want the optional chrome stick and white ball of the Pro Billet. I know some people really like the Pro 5.0 or Ripper, but is the Pro Billet at least better than the stock Hurst?

Or, does anyone offer a chrome short stick I could bolt on to my stock Hurst?

I liked my Hurst Pro Billit. The chrome handle seems pretty long compared to stock, but still felt good. I really liked the look of the chrome with Hurst on the side of it. You have to keep the boot pulled down a little to see the Hurst. I did put the Hurst white ball with the six speed pattern on the shifter. It looked great, but.... I didn't like the metal adapter that is needed to lock the threads. I ended up just running the **** without the adapter, and that caused the pattern to be upside down. I am sure you could figure out some way to make it align, Or try to find a plain white ball. The threads on the ball are for a stock shifter, so the adapter is required to fit the 3/8 (?) threads of the chrome shifter handle. At the time I purchased mine, you couldn't get a stock threaded Chrome handle. I even had to special order the adapter from Hurst, but they didn't charge me for it.

Its a good shifter. I have the Billet Pro with a Lou's short stick. Its the shortest throw I've ever seen. The long chrome stick that comes with it, I call the synchro-destroyer.

Tell me more about why you call it the Synchro-destroyer. After two transmissions, I had Hurst out of my car for a trip to the dealership, and never put it back in. I had to have a new transmission at about 20,000 and again at about 43000. Synchros both times. I have had the billit out of the car since 43,000, and now first synchro is out again at 73,000. I sold the billit, but planned to purchase another later. The Billit has adjustable stops that should protect the transmission. Do you think that the length lets you hit gears harder, and hurts the tranny?

Thanks for the advice guys. Is the chrome stick just a straight, old-school Hurst stick, or is it curved or shaped different for this application? I wonder if any normal Hurst stick would bolt up, because I've seen them in all kinds of different lengths.

felton, that's weird about your synchros. I thought the T-56 was supposed to be a pretty bullet-proof trans. Is this a common problem? If the dealer keeps throwing new synchros in the same trans, maybe something else in there is causing the problem. (I'm in no way a manual trans expert, but just a thought)
