Default t56 skip shift and reverse lockout

this is my first t56 tranny and am sorta confused. i dont completely understand the skip shift. i found some info that helped, but need more. i didnt realize the 1st to 4th shift was forced, mine has never done that. does that mean someone before me put a skip shift eliminator on it? if so, how do i find out? also, it does not like to go into reverse. sometimes it will go into reverse, and other times i gotta talk dirty to it first. it'll engage for a second and then jump right back out. synchro? any info would be greatly appreciated.

Is it hard to push over into Reverse, or does it go in pretty easily?

The Skip Shift is a Solenoid on the side of the Tranny what when engaged it shoots out a pin that rides in a groove only allowing you to go from first to 4th. It dis-engages when you get into 4th. Look at the wiring for it and see if it's connected or if it has a little plug on it.

goes in pretty easy. its the only t56 ive drove, so dont have much to compare with. but mechanically, it seems ok as far as the way it feels. goes over smooth, slides forward fine, then when i back off the clutch a little, it falls right in. when it doesnt go in, it just grinds as soon as i start to back off the clutch. or sometimes it will engage, then almost immediately jump back out and grind. when it doesnt want to work, ive tried just holding the clutch in and just sliding the shifter back and forth between 3rd and 4th. after 3 or 4 times, it feels like the shifter is freed up a little, then seems to go right in to reverse just about every time. thanks and hope that makes sense lol

also, i was having problems with the clutch overheating and the pedal sticking to the floor. did the drill mod. fluid was very dark. my ankles been tore up for a while so ive been limited as far as bein able to work on it. the clutch still gets a little soft after 2 gears, but not as bad as before, so im hopin that'll be fixed when i change the fluid. i dunno if that would have any effect on my reverse issues, just tryin to give as much info as possible.

I would try bleeding it some more..

Sounds like that is the cause for the Reverse..could be a Synchro issue aswell..
