T56 Is there a difference between earlier T56's say 1999, compared to 2001 and newer T56's. Any major difference? Doing an rx7/v8 swap and looking for a T56. Or does it even matter what year T56 i get?
All the LS1 f-body trannies will interchange with one another, however somewhere around the 99 to 2000 model year they upgraded the 2nd gear to the same one used in the Viper. The engagement teeth are more prone to strip off the earlier 2nd gears, but its not a huge issue and in a light rx7 either style would probably do just fine.
94 to 97 LT1 trannies will also interchage with nothing more than an LS1 bellhousing, mid plate, and input shaft. GTO trannies will also interchange with the LS1 f-body trannies with nothing more than a rear ofset lever change (the part the shifter fits into). The GTO trannies have lower gearing however.
